What you need
An existing ceiling light fixture with an E27 socket. That's it. No tools, no tape, no screws.
Step 1 — Shape your Kumo
The shade arrives flat. Open it and gently separate the paper layers by hand, building up the cloud shape as you go. Bend, lift and adjust each layer until you get the form you want. This takes about 3 minutes. No two Kumo Shades look exactly alike — the shape is yours.
Step 2 — Turn off your ceiling light
Safety first. Switch off the light at the wall before handling the fixture.
Step 3 — Remove your existing bulb or shade
Unscrew whatever is currently on your ceiling socket. You just need the bare E27 socket exposed.
Step 4 — Attach the Kumo
Slide the plastic mounting ring inside the Kumo Shade onto your E27 socket and screw it in place — the same way you'd screw in a lightbulb. The shade locks into position around the socket.
Step 5 — Screw in your LED bulb
Insert a warm white LED bulb (E27, 2700K, max 25W) through the opening at the bottom of the shade. Never use incandescent or halogen — heat damage risk.
Step 6 — Turn on and adjust
Switch the light back on. If the cloud shape needs adjusting, reshape the paper layers by hand until you're happy with it.
To remove: simply reverse the process. The shade unscrews in seconds and packs flat — ready for your next place.

What exactly is the Kumo Shade made of?
The Kumo Shade is made from multiple layers of translucent tissue paper shaped around a lightweight wire frame. It's not single-sheet paper — the layered construction gives it structure, volume and resistance. The organic, irregular cloud shape means no two Kumo Shades look exactly alike.
Is it safe? Can paper catch fire?
Only if used with the wrong bulb. The Kumo Shade is designed exclusively for LED bulbs. LED bulbs produce minimal heat and are completely safe for use with paper shades. Never use incandescent, halogen, or any high-heat bulb. With a LED bulb at max 25W, the Kumo is safe for everyday use.
Will the paper yellow or deteriorate over time?
With LED bulbs, the risk of yellowing is minimal — it's the heat from incandescent bulbs that causes paper to yellow over time. Keep the shade away from direct humidity (steamy kitchens, bathrooms) for best longevity. With normal use and a LED bulb, the Kumo is designed to last.
Does it fit my ceiling light?

What bulb do you recommend?

Yes, completely normal. The Kumo ships flat to protect it during transit. On delivery, simply open it and gently separate and lift the paper layers by hand to build the cloud shape you want. This takes about 3 to 5 minutes and is part of the experience — you shape it yourself.
Can I see the bulb through the paper?
Slightly, depending on how you've shaped the layers. To minimise this, make sure the lower layers of paper are well spread and layered toward the base of the shade. The more volume you give the lower section, the less visible the bulb will be.
I already have a shade on my socket. Does it still work?
Yes. Simply remove your existing shade first to expose the bare E27 socket. The Kumo replaces it entirely — no other parts needed.
Can I reshape it after installation?
Yes, at any time. Simply switch off the light, reach up and gently reshape the paper layers by hand. The paper is flexible and holds its form well.
