Unfold the washi paper shade gently. Insert the steel wire frame into the shade — the ribs guide the shape. Place the shade onto the tripod base. Plug in. Switch on. 2700 K recommended.
Setup takes about 5 minutes. No tools, no wiring, no electrician.

Each Kagerō is handcrafted. The washi paper is cut, stretched over a mold, and air-dried.
This process leaves a slight irregularity that becomes visible when light passes through it.

Washi is no ordinary paper. Made from mulberry fibers, it is tear-resistant, resistant to light moisture, and durable.
The Kagerō arrives folded—the paper retains its shape and returns to its exact roundness once unfolded.
A material that Japanese artisans have been working with since the 8th century. Nothing fragile here.

The warm glow through the washi paper is really something — photos don't fully capture it. It's softer in person. Assembly is literally: unfold shade, put on base, plug in. Done in 5 minutes. I've had it for three weeks now and it still makes me happy every time I switch it on. For the price, I genuinely don't understand why everyone doesn't have one.

This lamp sits on my shelf and creates a warm pool of light around it. It doesn't light up the whole room — that's the point. It creates a zone. At 47cm it's a good size, not too small, not overwhelming for a studio. The egg shape means it doesn't take up much width either. I've moved it around a few times — shelf, desk, floor next to my bed. Works everywhere. Packaging was careful, the paper arrived without any damage.

But when I set it up and turned it on — it genuinely looks like the pictures. I put it on my oak sideboard next to a framed print and the warm glow reflecting off the wall behind it is beautiful. The paper has this soft handmade texture, the ribs are even and clean, and the black handle on top gives it a sculptural feel. It took me maybe 3 minutes to set up. Unfolded the shade, placed it on the tripod, plugged in. That's it. I keep it on the warm setting every evening.

Honestly the print never looked that good until now. The lamp lights it from the side — you can see the warm glow reflecting off the glass and the brushstrokes catch the light in a way they never did with overhead lighting. The green wall behind peeks out just enough to frame the whole thing. It looks like a corner of a gallery, except it's my bedroom. The paper ribs create these fine horizontal lines on the wall too. I didn't plan any of it, I just put the lamp down and plugged it in. Sometimes the best things happen when you stop overthinking. Five minutes to set up, zero regret.

I have it on a slatted wood shelf near a window and the natural light coming through the blinds behind it makes the paper almost glow on its own — you can see every single rib, the texture of the paper, the wire frame through the shade. It looks like a little sculpture. The egg shape is really clean and symmetrical. The legs are thin black metal, they splay out nicely and feel solid despite how delicate they look. The cable runs along the shelf — black, not white, which blends well. Even off, this lamp earns its spot. At night when I switch it on it's a completely different object. Two lamps for the price of one, basically.

This egg shape is what made me click — it's wider at the bottom and tapers toward the top, which gives it this organic, almost alive quality. In person the proportions are perfect. The ribs are tight and even all the way around, the paper has a warm cream tone, not stark white. The black handle at the top is a nice detail — it curves just enough to give it character without looking decorative. The legs and cable are both black and they loop together on the surface in a way that actually looks good, not messy. I have it on a stone countertop and the warm glow reflects off the tile behind it. It's on right now as I write this. Quietly doing its job.

The glow is low and warm and it spreads sideways — it doesn't blast light upward like every other lamp I've owned. My flat used to feel like an office at night. Now it feels like somewhere I actually want to sit. My partner, who has never commented on anything I've bought for the flat, said "that's nice." From him that's a standing ovation.

The paper feels substantial, not like the flimsy IKEA paper shades I've had before. The tripod legs are stable and the whole thing has a nice weight to it without being heavy. My only note: delivery took about 12 days to the Netherlands, which is fine but slightly longer than I expected. Also the shade arrived with a couple of fold marks from the packaging — they faded after a few evenings of use but weren't completely invisible on day one. That said I'd still buy it again. It's on my desk and it makes working from home after dark feel completely different.

Looked amazing — the warm glow on the wall behind my headboard was exactly the kind of light I'd been wanting. Problem is, my living room then felt jealous. Moved it to the sideboard next to a stack of books and a candle. Even better. So now there's a second one on the way for the bedroom. It's not often I buy the same thing twice. The assembly is nothing — it's basically already done when you unbox it. Unfold, place, plug. My six-year-old could do it.

One was so thin the bulb was visible through the shade like a spotlight. One had legs that wobbled. This one — I unpacked it, set it up, turned it on, and just sat there for a minute looking at it. The paper diffuses the light evenly, no hot spot, no visible bulb. The ribs create subtle shadow lines that move slightly when you open a window. The build quality is solid. I'm keeping this one. I'm done looking.

Can a variable-speed drive be used?
The Kagerō comes with a 3-mode LED bulb (warm, neutral, white). The switch on the cable cycles between the three modes — there is no built-in dimmer. If you'd like variable brightness, replace the included bulb with any dimmable E27 bulb (40 W max, 2700 K recommended) and use an external inline dimmer or a smart plug with dimming. The lamp itself is compatible.
